Around twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland were left without power on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms impacted the region, generating powerful gusts reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage

Residents observed large ice chunks measuring up to seven centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that various areas across Queensland had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Rescue organizations received nearly 600 requests for assistance across the state, mostly for building damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

During the peak on Sunday, in excess of 28,000 power users in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were expected to linger along large portions of Queensland's east this week as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.

The following day was expected to become the wettest day, with ongoing severe weather risk anticipated across multiple regions of both states.

Health Warning

Health officials warned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.
