The visionary game developer, the mind behind the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has passed away in a vehicle crash in California aged 55.

Zampella's death was verified by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the development studio he co-founded.

The influential video game developer passed away following his vehicle was involved in a crash and burst into flames on a motorway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday morning, as reported by.

"We are facing a devastating loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's family, those closest to him, and the countless individuals inspired by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts stated.
