Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his future following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
The manager highlighted recurring weaknesses from his team in their European loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with performances this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
