Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was found guilty of orchestrating a military coup in last fall and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he was staying under confinement pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This encompassed attempting to break his ankle monitor and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a document approving the detention, Justice Moraes said data from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's "intention to break the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his getaway".

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His offspring, his son Flávio, who holds office as a senator, called for a meeting of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.

His son wrote on digital networks on the previous day: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or watch it all from your phone there on your sofa? I invite you to battle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so backers could "pray for his health and for the restoration of democratic rule in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the magistrate's ruling was the potential of his transfer to embassies near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a history of organizing to request asylum through a consular facility", a declaration said.

The court filing highlights that the US embassy in the federal district, Brazil's capital, is positioned around approximately 13 kilometers from his dwelling.

Worldwide Consequences

His judicial problems have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist United States President President Trump, causing him to impose a half-rate duty on Brazilian product imports.

The former president is being detained in a national police facility in the capital and will have a detention review on the following day.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to authorize him to complete his entire prison term under home confinement, with electronic monitoring.

They also asked that Bolsonaro be permitted to depart his residence for medical care, saying he needed frequent medical attention for lung conditions and other health problems.

Context of Sentencing

He was found guilty of leading a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the national vote to his ideological adversary, President Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he knew of a plot which involved plans to kill Lula and his running partner, Alckmin, and to detain and kill the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The plot was stopped because it couldn't obtain the backing of the military leaders. The current president was sworn in without incident on 1 January 2023.

But a following week, on January 8th, numerous his backers stormed and vandalised government buildings in the federal district, Brazil's capital.

The security forces took action and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The magistrates found that the demonstrators had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the country's army to take action, bring back stability and return him to office.

At the time, his attorneys called the decades-long sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.

The former president called the trial a targeted investigation" and said it was aimed at blocking him running in the next presidential race.
