Israelis have come together around the country to remember two years since the Hamas-conducted attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The assault resulted in over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the most deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel answered by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are seen as trustworthy by the UN and other world agencies.

"The bloodthirsty enemies have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the aims of the war: the release of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will not create a risk to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled formal remembrance events until October 16th - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still were held throughout the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the families of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was aired on Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was held across the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' representatives convened in the North African coastal city of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to discuss the terms of the proposal.

A prominent representative familiar with the discussions said that an late session of indirect talks began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative said the earlier meeting concluded without tangible results, because of disagreements over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not resume fighting after the opening period of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "tough and have still not deliver any significant progress," but noted that mediators are striving to reduce the disparities between the both parties.

Key Matters in Talks

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The trade of the captives still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • After-conflict governance of the region

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, young a woman - whose brother endured the assault on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were killed and many more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "Nowhere feels like home anymore and until all the hostages come back not a single person will feel safe."

"When we see everyone home once more, we can feel relief anew. Then we can begin to recover," she concluded.

In front of the leader's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to show their backing for the families of the captives. Israel reports 48 continue in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be surviving.

Protester one woman remarked: "We need do any agreement needed for the captives to be released. But we truly desire promises that we will be secure."

Surveys now consistently show that about the majority of the population prefer the hostilities to end in as payment for the release of the captives.

Palestinian Conditions

At the site of Nova festival, grieving people assembled to honor the dead.

From the site, the noise of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people said the heavy Israeli shelling persisted.

In Gaza City, air and artillery strikes were documented in the early hours of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, area and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the east side district of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"Once the evening falls, the dread comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was died by an Israeli bombing previously, explained.

"We are afraid of the attacks. During nighttime we are resting together, clinging, particularly my little child who places his face on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we monitor the updates to see what happened. And I'm worried that this halt will not be completed and that the conflict will come back to us."

Medical Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area reported it had taken in the bodies of six people by the midday, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the south region of the city reported two more victims had been delivered. An individual was killed by Israeli troops while looking for help to the south region, health workers said.

The region's health ministry announced 25 of the {territ
