Esteemed Performer Pat Finn, Recognized For Appearances in Friends and The Middle, Dies at 60 Years Old.
American entertainer Pat Finn, who appeared in popular television series like Friends, Seinfeld and "The Middle", has passed away at 60 years old.
The comedy and improvisation performer succumbed at his home in Los Angeles, California recently having undergone treatment for a cancer diagnosis since 2022, according to reports.
"He considered no one a stranger - solely future friends he didn't know yet," his family stated in a statement.
They added that he had "lived his life fully - with happiness and energy".
An Extensive Career on Screen
His initial on-screen part was in the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he played the lead character's sibling.
He was also seen in a regular part on Murphy Brown from 1995 to 1997.
He appeared as Joe Mayo in the show Seinfeld in the late 90s, playing a host known to delegate unpleasant chores to his guests.
Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, he had guest spots on several hit series, including:
- King of Queens
- "Friends"
- That '70s Show
- House, M.D.
Finn was perhaps best known for his portrayal of the character Bill Norwood in The Middle, appearing throughout eight seasons over nearly a decade.
His film credits are It's Complicated and "Santa Paws 2".
A Life in Improv
Beyond his acting parts, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and worked as a teacher at the University of Colorado, where he was a professor.
He was involved with a six-person improv troupe named "Beer Shark Mice".
"Finn taught, supported, and inspired countless students during his career and it's nearly impossible to find a person anyplace who has a bad thing to say about him," his family wrote.
In a tribute, colleague and actor Richard Kind noted there was "not a more kind, gentle, or funny, down to earth person you could encounter".
"Consistently upbeat, assisting others to improve and be funnier. A great dad, a great guy," he shared on social media.
The actor is survived by his partner Donna, his children, and his parents and siblings.
