Democrats Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed outrage after the ex-president accused a contingent of Democratic congress members of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be arrested and penalized "through capital punishment" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Message That Sparked the Debate

The clip, shared on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic congress members who previously acted in military or defense roles.

"As we did, you all took an vow to defend and defend this constitution," the representatives stated in the short video. "At present, the dangers to our constitution don't only come from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our statutes are explicit, you can reject illegal orders, you can decline illegal orders, you must refuse illegal orders. No one has to carry out directives that contravene the legal system or our national charter."

Donald Trump's Angry Response

The recorded statement appeared to provoke a furious reaction from the ex-president.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on his preferred platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he wrote: "This constitutes really serious, and Dangerous to our United States. Their comments cannot be allowed to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third post, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Leaders React

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, Top Democrats issued a combined declaration censuring the statements.

"Violent politics has no role in this nation," they stated. "Congress members who participated in the video all acted our country with tremendous national pride and distinction. We clearly denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful calls for execution against elected officials, and appeal to House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in communication with law enforcement "to make certain the security of these members and their families."

"Donald Trump must right away remove these radical social media posts and withdraw his violent rhetoric before he leads to violence," the statement continued.

Lawmakers' Firm Reaction

The officials who appeared in the video also released a declaration.

"We are veterans and security experts who value this nation and made an oath to protect and support the constitution of the United States," they stated. "Our pledge is permanent, and we aim to keep it. No intimidation, intimidation, or promotion of aggression will deter us from that fundamental responsibility."

"The most revealing aspect is that the ex-president deems it punishable by capital punishment for us to restate the legal requirements," they added. "Our service members should understand that we have their protection as they carry out their pledge to the national charter and responsibility to adhere to only proper directives. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."

They continued: "Every American must come together and censure the former president's demands for our death and political violence. This is a time for ethical certainty."

More Political Responses

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's comments and shared on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the President of the United States is calling for the capital punishment of public representatives."

He added: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, every American – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this immediately and unconditionally."

The Republican House speaker justified Trump's allegation that the Democrats had engaged in "sedition", characterizing the video as "extremely improper", stating: "This represents very dangerous, you have leading members of the government telling soldiers to disobey orders, I think that's unprecedented in American history."

The Conservative representative also according to sources stated to media outlets that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the offense of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to parse the language and establish all that."

Administration Statement

During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when asked by a reporter, "Does the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the executive branch representative replied: "Absolutely not."

"It's important to note about what the ex-commander in chief is addressing," the official said. "You have sitting members of the federal government who conspired to organize a video message to members of the US military, to active duty service members urging them to disobey the president's proper directives."

She added: "The purity of our defense system depends on the hierarchy, and if that chain of command is compromised, it can cause casualties, it can lead to confusion, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are fundamentally encouraging."
