Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting Against the Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their initial championship series after the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh frame, propelling the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for our team, our city, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, making him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another player anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment except for Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work this season.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of this game," he continued.
The Blue Jays claimed the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
