Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:
- Each team has just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players looking for different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Input
All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
