A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
